What is Alyssa’s Law?
What is Alyssa’s Law?
Alyssa Alhadeff was only 14 years old when she lost her life during a school shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day 2018. She was among 17 killed in the brutal massacre and Alyssa’s Law is a legislation that addresses the issues of law enforcement communication and response time during any life-threatening emergency on school property.
Alyssa’s Law is critical legislation addressing the issue of law enforcement response time when a life-threatening emergency occurs because time equals life. The law calls for the installation of silent panic alarms that are directly linked to law enforcement, so in case of any emergency, they will get on the scene as quickly as possible, take down a threat and triage any victims.

How it Works
The law calls for the installation of silent panic alarms that are directly linked to law enforcement, so in case of any emergency they will get on the scene as quickly as possible, take down a threat and triage any victims.
Meet Alyssa’s Law Requirements
ClearlyIP offers a few unique solutions and services to assist organizations to be Alyssa’s Law compliant.
Silent Intercom
ClearlyIP’s Silent Intercom enables authorized personnel to connect to any other ClearlyIP phone, on the same phone system, and monitor what is happening in the room without any indication to unauthorized occupants.
Panic Button
ClearlyIP’s Panic Button is designed for schools and any multi-room organization, which helps to keep employees, students & teachers safer. The Panic Button instantly notifies administration & law enforcement, without detection, alerting all parties of the problem and the identifying location. The Panic Button is Alyssa’s Law Compliant and a simple add-on to a phone system.
The ClearlyIP Panic Button is available in two different options:
Option 1
Designated Programmed Button

Option 2
USB Panic Button Add-On

CodeX
The ClearlyIP CodeX platform for FreePBX based systems allows administration to set up groups of phones. Those groups can then be selected if an emergency arises, and a CodeX can be initiated. This will broadcast a prerecorded message to the selected groups. Upon hearing the announcement, a pin code must be entered within a limited time, either marking the room safe, unsafe, or unreported. Codex then displays the list of rooms and their status. This can be critical information for first responders.

Support The Cause
Alyssa’s parents, Lori and Ilan Alhadeff, founded a national non-profit organization ‘Make Our Schools Safe,’ dedicated to protecting students and teachers at school. The mission is to empower students and staff to help create and maintain a culture of safety and vigilance in a secure school environment.
Website: https://makeourschoolssafe.org/testimonials/
They provide Dream Team Club tool kits, empowering others to collaborate with local government to impact school safety — it’s literally life or death-level important that our administrators consider school safety as essential as they do the curriculum.
The foundation collaborates with high-level security advisors to offer survival information for protection in emergencies. We are focused on bringing these skills to schools, so teachers feel confident of protecting their students and themselves. Scenario-based training must be as intrinsic a part of schooling as fire drills.
Born out of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre on Valentine’s Day 2018, when the founders lost their beautiful 14 year-old daughter, Alyssa Alhadeff, they are here to strengthen the weaknesses in school security. Parkland’s shooting did not have to happen. They are here to take action, protecting schools so it never happens again. With passion and persistence, it can be done. Children should thrive in classrooms, not fear for their lives. The time has come to make schools safe!
