Alyssa Alhadeff was only 14 years old when she lost her life during a school shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day 2018. She was among 17 killed in the brutal massacre and Alyssa’s Law is a legislation that addresses the issues of law enforcement communication and response time during any life-threatening emergency on school property.

Alyssa’s Law is critical legislation addressing the issue of law enforcement response time when a life-threatening emergency occurs because time equals life. The law calls for the installation of silent panic alarms that are directly linked to law enforcement, so in case of any emergency, they will get on the scene as quickly as possible, take down a threat and triage any victims.

Meet Alyssa’s Law Requirements

The Panic Button instantly notifies administration & law enforcement, without detection, alerting all parties of the problem and the identifying location. The Panic Button is Alyssa’s Law Compliant and a simple add-on to a phone system.

The ClearlyIP Panic Button is available in two different options:

Option 1

Designated Programmed Button

ClearlyIP has implemented the option for a Panic Button on all ClearlyIP Phones. By pressing the Panic Button, pre-programmed numbers are all dialed instantly. A pre-recorded message is played for those receiving the call. After the message is played, the microphone on the phone is set to broadcast only, allowing the recipients to hear anything happening around the phone. Most importantly, this is all done without any indication that the phone is on or connected to a call.

Option 2

USB Panic Button Add-On

The USB Panic Button connects to any ClearlyIP Phone that has a USB port (CIP250, CIP270, CIP230v2, CIP250v2 and CIP270v2) and is placed in an easily accessible location such as under the desk or mounted to the wall. When pressed the button triggers the phone’s Panic Button feature or speed dial, which starts the broadcast dialing process, alerting recipients of a problem.

CodeX

The ClearlyIP CodeX platform for FreePBX based systems allows administration to set up groups of phones. Those groups can then be selected if an emergency arises, and a CodeX can be initiated. This will broadcast a prerecorded message to the selected groups. Upon hearing the announcement, a pin code must be entered within a limited time, either marking the room safe, unsafe, or unreported. Codex then displays the list of rooms and their status. This can be critical information for first responders.

With the addition of the Clearly Anywhere mobile softphone, a CodeX can be initiated or responded to using a cell phone from any location.

The mission is to empower students and staff to help create and maintain a culture of safety and vigilance in a secure school environment.
